The Challenge:
The O2 is one of London’s most iconic entertainment venues, attracting global artists and millions of visitors each year, alongside a vibrant mix of restaurants, bars, and retail outlets.
With such a large and dynamic environment, the venue operates a continuous refurbishment programme to keep facilities at the highest standard. This creates unique challenges: projects must often be delivered within very tight schedules, with strict requirements to minimise disruption to ongoing events and daily operations.
Additional considerations include implementing specialist protective coverings to prevent dust particles from spreading into live areas, while upholding rigorous health and safety standards to safeguard both the visiting public and our teams working on site.
The Solution:
Our first project at The O2 involved the uplift and installation of new flooring across the bustling concourse area — a high-traffic space demanding durability, aesthetics, and minimal disruption. To achieve this, we implemented a carefully planned construction methodology, beginning with the mechanical uplift of the existing floor using a bully stripper. Subfloor preparation was then carried out with precision: minor uneven areas were levelled with a feather finish, followed by the application of Stopgap 1200, a low-odour, fast-setting, two-component smoothing compound designed for speed and efficiency in live environments.
For the final finish, we collaborated with key stakeholders to select Karndean Opus Argen LVT, chosen not only for its striking design — combining bold charcoal tones with subtle silver highlights — but also for its sustainable credentials. The product incorporates recycled content, is recyclable at the end of its life, and delivers long-lasting performance in high-footfall areas. By integrating design vision with engineering expertise, sustainable product choices, and close client collaboration, we delivered a flooring solution that enhances both the functionality and the visual impact of The O2’s concourse.
The Results:
The client was delighted with the installation and seamless delivery of the project. Since then, we’ve continued our partnership as O2’s go-to flooring specialists, enhancing premium spaces such as the VIP Club 101, VIP corridor, Club 337, Suite 331, and the back-of-house corridor to elevate the overall guest experience.
